  1. 6 Οκτ 2003 · The problem is due to shoddy workmanship; specifically, aluminum flash is not cleaned off machined aluminum engine surfaces before the engine is assembled. This flash will eventually break off of the aluminum engine components, and will travel all throughout the engine via the oil supply system.

  2. 15 Ιαν 2008 · I have been reading alot about the 2.7L engines dying around 30000 miles. Anyone out there having this problem. Seems the engines get gunked up with sludge real bad and the engines seizes.

  3. 18 Απρ 2005 · I just rebuilt a 2001 2.7 engine at 114,000 miles and YES it had a sludge problem. Technically, it was only the water pump broke, but it was so sludged up that I had to rebuid the entire engine. The two things that I see is... when the water pump starts to go bad (and it will), water is released in the oil.

  4. 17 Φεβ 2007 · There is probably oil in the coolant, which means there is a leak somewhere, water pump, head gasket, etc. Its probably also sludged up, and may need a timing chain and guides. Check out this thread. It is a good option for replacing the engine, and is cheaper and more reliable than getting another 2.7. Dan C.

  5. 7 Αυγ 2017 · Some of the issues you're describing were caused by my EGR Valve that failed. I had rough Idle, loss of power, surging at low cruising speed, misfiring, and stalling when accelerating from a stop. However it will eventually throw a P0404 or P0406 for this.

  6. 5 Μαρ 2011 · The Dodge dealer says that it only shows (random misfire). I have a code reader coming next week, so I'll be able to keep a closer eye on it after that. Some things that have been done to the car up to this point are a new fuel pump, new spark plugs, new coil wires. Throttle body cleaned.

  7. 13 Δεκ 2011 · 1. Sludge -- Sludge is caused by coolant leaking internally into the engine, from the water pump. The pump begins seeping, and being an internally mounted pump, it goes right into the oil, via the timing chain housing. Over time the coolant mixing with the oil causes the sludge.
