The General Employees Plan is a defned beneft pension plan that rewards longevity to public service. Employees who become vested are eligible for a lifetime retirement beneft when they reach the retirement age for the plan. Employees and the employer contribute a percentage of salary.

21 Δεκ 2013 · Pension officials handed out about $1 billion in bonuses from the city’s two pension funds to retirees and active city workers from 1985 to 2008. That money — mostly in the form of so-called 13th checks — could have shored up the funds and possibly prevented the city from filing for bankruptcy.
26 Δεκ 2023 · The amount of the one-time payment is based on your 2023 gross benefit (as of December 31, 2023) and your 2024 annual increase. This payment is NOT a 13th check. As it is a percentage of your benefit, it will be less than your regular monthly check. This one-time payment is non-compounding.
