But the last piece of the puzzle has been lacking: how does tattoo ink deposited in the lymphatic system affect people's health?
Several studies have shed light on the presence of potential carcinogenic or procarcinogenic products in tattoo inks. We extensively reviewed the literature and found 50 cases of skin cancer on tattoos: 23 cases of squamous-cell carcinoma and keratoacanthoma, 16 cases of melanoma, and 11 cases of basal-cell carcinoma.

1 Ιουλ 2024 · Reactions to tattoos are reported in up to 67% of people who get tattooed, with papulonodular and granulomatous reactions being the most common. Some neoplastic complications have been described, but their causality is still debated. Any pigment can cause adverse reactions, although red ink is more frequently associated with them.
21 Μαΐ 2024 · In the absence of well-designed epidemiologic research, there has been no scientific basis for a sound evaluation of the potential link between tattoo exposure and cancer. Our results suggest that tattooed individuals have a 21% increased risk of overall lymphoma relative to nontattooed individuals.
