Pets often gain access to rodenticides by eating baits or the poisoned rodents ( See also heading on page Strychnine Poisoning). Many rodenticides are toxic to pets. Early veterinary intervention in cases of ingestion provides the best chance for successful treatment.
Prophylactic Vitamin K1 Therapy. Dose: Vitamin K 1 should be administered at 3 to 5 mg/kg PO divided Q 12 H with a fatty meal to enhance absorption. Duration of administration: Short-acting anticoagulants (warfarin and pindone): 14 days. Bromadiolone: 21 days.
