18 Απρ 2024 · Clinical signs of whipworm infestation vary depending on the number of worms the cat hosts. If there are only a few worms, many cats won’t have any signs. Cats with a larger number of worms can develop bloody diarrhea with straining and frequent, urgent bowel movements.
Large infestations of whipworm can cause watery diarrhea, weight loss, and general debilitation. Whipworm infection in cats was rare in North America but cases appear to be rising. Infection is more common in tropical and sub-tropical areas.

8 Μαΐ 2004 · There are species of whipworms that can infect cats: Trichuris serrata in North America and Trichuris campanula in Europe. Cats are clean animals and fastidious around feces, and they rarely get infected. When they do, worm numbers are so small that symptoms hardly ever occur.

The characteristic symmetrical, thick-shelled eggs with bipolar plugs are detected on flotation of feces from infected dogs and cats; egg dimensions are 72–90 x 32–40 mcm.
