Separate applications are required for the Honors College and University Admission. The Southern University and A&M College undergraduate application and other needed forms (immunization and housing forms) can be obtained through the Office of Admissions.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS. Participation in the D. M. R. Spikes Honors College is voluntary. However, students must apply for admission to the College. ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS. INCOMING FRESHMEN STUDENTS. Valedictorians and Salutatorians. ACT Composite 20 - 22.9 or equivalent SAT score (without writing) - $1,000 per fall and spring semesters.
All students must meet the minimum entrance requirements and maintain a minimum, cumulative grade point average of 3.0/4.0, hold a full-time status, and take on average 4 or more honors credit hours each semester (Spring and Fall) to remain in the College.
The Honors College provides an enhanced educational experience for students who have a history of strong academic achievements and who have demonstrated exceptional creativity or talent. In 1988 Dr. Spikes accepted the position of president of the Southern University and A&M College System.-- she not only was the first woman to lead a public college or university in Louisiana, she also was the first woman in the US to serve as chief administrator for a university system. [4]
