Hand Bones. There are 27 bones in each human hand, with the total number being 54. These bones, along with the muscles and ligaments in the region, give structure to the human hand and allow for all the movement and dexterity of the hands and fingers.
Contents. BONES AND JOINTS OF THE HAND, WRIST AND FOREARM. The skeleton of the hand, wrist and forearm consists of 29 bones (diagram 1). The 2nd and 3rd metacarpals (MC) and the distal row of the carpus are the fixed elements of the hand. This promotes stability for grip.
