The Dorchester dress code is ‘smart casual’ and we respectfully ask guests visiting the hotel to refrain from wearing baseball caps, beanie hats, ripped jeans, sportswear, trainers, flip-flops and shorts in our restaurants and bars.

Hello. Could anyone confirm the dress code for afternoon tea please? Are men able to wear smart jeans and shirt? Obviously no trainers or sports shoes. Many thanks.

Smart casual is fine. You always get a couple of scruffy people who don’t really respect the tradition of afternoon tea plus a few people who want to make it an occasion so dress more formally. A pretty dress or trousers with a smart top is fine for women, a pair of chinos and a shirt good for men. I would suggest shoes over trainers.
