  1. When I have serious trouble sleeping, my low dose alprazolam and Doxepin does wonders. (I used to require much higher dose. The insomnia has improved over the years and I no longer need as much). Doxepin is so much better than Trazodone, which is what GP's often prescribe for sleeping issues.

  3. So technically, Doxepin is only meant to be taken in 3, 6, or maybe 10mg doses for sleep. My doctor, however, feels that higher doses can sometimes be helpful. I’ve tried going as high as 19mg (once) but did not find it particularly helpful.

  4. A typical cycle for me used to look like 2 nights doxepin (3 mg), 1-2 night quetiapine (10-25 mg), 2-4 nights melatonin/magnesium/propral/loratadine. I seem to have a mast cell issue so I guess that is why doxepin is a good fit for me.

  5. It takes 10-100x more of the drug for its anti-depressant activity. Al of the clinical data on Doxepin as an insomnia drug are at doses of 6 mg or less. 3 mg is all that’s really necessary for that action. But, you can’t get a generic at that dose in the US.
