When I have serious trouble sleeping, my low dose alprazolam and Doxepin does wonders. (I used to require much higher dose. The insomnia has improved over the years and I no longer need as much). Doxepin is so much better than Trazodone, which is what GP's often prescribe for sleeping issues.
So technically, Doxepin is only meant to be taken in 3, 6, or maybe 10mg doses for sleep. My doctor, however, feels that higher doses can sometimes be helpful. I’ve tried going as high as 19mg (once) but did not find it particularly helpful.
My doctor prescribed doxepin and said I can easily take 25mg. But when I google I only see 3mg or 6mg studies. Does anyone here take doxepin? Curious what dosages other people are using and if taking more gives more benefit.

It takes 10-100x more of the drug for its anti-depressant activity. Al of the clinical data on Doxepin as an insomnia drug are at doses of 6 mg or less. 3 mg is all that’s really necessary for that action. But, you can’t get a generic at that dose in the US.
