26 Ιαν 2023 · In this publication, we continue our Therapeutic Cheat Sheet series by highlighting the uses of Doxepin in dermatology, which has been described as one of the most impactful oral and topical medications used in the treatment of recalcitrant, chronic itch related to cutaneous disease.
Doxepin is a tricyclic antidepressant well known by dermatologists for its antipruritic effects when used at low doses. However, it is not commonly known that the US Food and Drug Administration approves doses up to 300 mg/day.

11 Ιαν 2024 · Usual Adult Dose for Anxiety. Initial dose: 75 mg orally once a day. Maintenance dose: 75 to 150 mg orally once a day or in divided doses; patients with very mild disease may be adequately controlled with 25 to 50 mg per day. Maximum dose: 150 mg/day.
For itching due to eczema: Adults—Apply a thin layer to the affected area(s) of the skin four times a day. Space the doses or applications at least three or four hours apart. Treatment may be continued for up to eight days. Children—Use and dose must be determined by your doctor.
Adults and children 12 years of age and older—At first, 75 milligrams (mg) once a day or in divided doses during the day. Your doctor may adjust your dose as needed. However, the dose is usually not more than 150 mg per day.
