20 Ιαν 2022 · Generalized pruritus can occur in association with multiple conditions, such as dermatologic disorders, liver or kidney dysfunction, malignancy, systemic rheumatic disease, infections, or drug reactions. Pruritus may also occur in the absence of an identifiable etiology.
For itching due to eczema: Adults—Apply a thin layer to the affected area(s) of the skin four times a day. Space the doses or applications at least three or four hours apart. Treatment may be continued for up to eight days. Children—Use and dose must be determined by your doctor.
Solution. Doxepin is a tricyclic antidepressant well known by dermatologists for its antipruritic effects when used at low doses. However, it is not commonly known that the US Food and Drug Administration approves doses up to 300 mg/day.
