Doxepin is a tricyclic antidepressant with very potent H-1 and H-2 antihistaminic properties. Doxepin is more effective than diphenhydramine at a dosage of 10 mg thrice daily. Doxepin should not be advised after a recent myocardial infarction or for patients with severe liver disease.

Doxepin is known to block sodium and potassium channels on cardiomyocytes and can reduce cardiac action potential and depolarization and lead to cardiac arrhythmias.
