Sir Alimuddin Zumla, KBE, [12] FRCP, FRCPath, FRSB (born 15 May 1955) is a British-Zambian professor of infectious diseases and international health at University College London Medical School.

Developing life threatening, crippling tuberculous meningitis while a junior doctor working in London did not stop Alimuddin Zumla from going on to make what colleagues judge to be a “unique, remarkable, and substantial” contribution to improving health care globally.
He nearly lost his life to meningitis when he was working as a junior doctor in London in 1982. He subsequently progressed to a meteoric, star-studded, and extremely successful career focussed on tackling killer infectious diseases.
22 Μαΐ 2024 · Since 1994, Sir Zumla has been Professor of Infectious Diseases and International Health at University College London, one of Europe’s largest and top ranked academic institutions. He is also consultant infectious Diseases Physician at UCLHospitals NHS Trust.
Previous studies have estimated the number of deaths associated with drug-resistant infections and sepsis and found that infections remain a leading cause of death globally.
