Introduction. The use of the mouse in biomedical research can be traced back to the 1600s and since then this species has contributed to a vast number of scientific findings and to progress in basic biological and pharmaceutical research (Grieder and Strandberg, 2003).
Mice are the most widely used animals for a range of experiments including medical, chemical, pharmaco-logical, toxicological, biological, and genetic. The administration of test substances, such as chemical ele-ments, compounds, drugs, antibodies, cells or other agents, to mice is one of the major methods for evalu-ating their biological activity.
