Different drugs will have different detection times, and the type of drug test used can affect how quickly a drug may be detected. Some drugs can be detected in the body quickly—within just a few minutes for a saliva test, for example.
Alcohol concentration is performed by headspace gas chromatography with flame ionization detection (GC-FID) (reference method to demonstrate intoxication potential in blood). Serum may be submitted, but is not preferred. Urine alcohol concentration is not a good indicator of intoxication.
