31 Δεκ 2023 · Traditional grip refers to when you hold your sticks in different ways for each hand. Your dominant hand will hold the drumstick in a matched grip position, having the stick facing away from you. Your non-dominant hand will have the stick in the traditional grip position.
Traditional grip gives you a different kind of control, in my experience it allows finer nuances of sound: you can freely adjust the angle in which the stick hits the drumhead, and also the after-impact pressure – that's also possible in matched grip, but it feels less "integrated" to me.
Matched Grip. Matched grip, as its name implies, is a grip in which both of your hands are “matching,” mirroring each other and utilizing the same technique to strike the drums.
