DuBois (/ ˈ d uː b ɔɪ z / DOO-boyss) is a city and the most populous community in Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, United States. DuBois is located approximately 100 miles (160 km) northeast of Pittsburgh. The population was 7,510 as of the 2020 census. [3] It is the principal city in the DuBois, PA Micropolitan Statistical Area.
DuBois residents, along with those of surrounding counties, played a major part in that conflict. One of the most famous Union regiments was the 13th Pennsylvania Reserve or the 42nd regiment infantry, also known as the Bucktails who served from May 28, 1861, through June 11, 1864.

DuBois Area Timeline. 1682 Pennsylvania Founded William Penn arrives in the New World after receiving a charter from King Charles II, establishing the Province of Pennsylvania as a refuge for Quakers and other religious groups. Penn founds Philadelphia, which quickly becomes a significant trade and cultural center.
In ca.1902 the Buffalo & Susquehanna Coal & Iron Company purchased the Berwind Shaft No. 1 Mine near DuBois, PA from the Berwind – White Coal Mining Company, as well as lands from Peale, Peacock, and Kerr Coal Company, some 10 miles south of DuBois, PA.

Two settlements grew on either side of Sandy Lick Creek; on the east, DuBois was made up primarily of woodsmen and loggers, and on the west, Rumbarger was home to coal mining families. Industry grew and attracted new workers, soon creating a thriving competition between the two.
