Where the DuBois Mall is now located, there once existed one of the major industries of the DuBois area, the Number One mine shaft of the Berwind – White Coal Mining Company. This mine was purchased by the Buffalo & Susquehanna Coal & Iron Company and became B & S Shaft No. 1.
