11 Νοε 2020 · I've recently installed the factory block heater on a 2016 Colorado 2.8L. Hopefully, someone finds this information useful. I will warn you ahead of time, I am not a mechanic and usually rely on this forum, Youtube and more knowledgeable people in my life to figure stuff like this out.
24 Νοε 2010 · The block heater is simply an element (kind of like a probe) in the coolant stream in the block. When plugged in, power flows thru it and causes the element to get hot. This heats (or warms) the coolant in the block.
27 Δεκ 2014 · Just a confirmation that the Duramax block heaters can be changed out in about one hour. I took my truck in to a repair shop I trust to get an estimate. I'm sure they use the standard shop time estimate manual, which says 5 hours of labor are required ($800 repair with parts).

5 Δεκ 2023 · Most diesel manufacturers recommend that an engine block heater be used whenever you intend to start the engine in temperatures at or below 20 degrees Fahrenheit. However, if your truck hasn’t been started in a while and it’s at least moderately cold, you might benefit from a block heater.
