26 Ιουλ 2009 · Tests using abrasive paper on a knife scale suggest that it would take many years of heavy use and carry to wear away enough bone to fade the dye even a little bit. I cracked a scale, and the dye had in fact penetrated all the way through.
20 Απρ 2018 · I have a couple Case knives where the scales are darker on one side and lighter on the other. Primarily I'm talking about an Amber Bone Mini Copperlock but my 6.5 Bone Stag Mini Trapper has some slight difference as well. I really like the orangey-carmelish look and am wondering what folks recommend? Colors, times, etc.?
29 Ιουν 2008 · Years ago, I bought a giraffe leg bone thinking I could have it dyed and stabilized and have a product comparable to what the South African giraffe bone sellers have at the Blade Show. I sent a set of scales to a professional stabilizer, (NOT K&G) I talked with this person and asked for a black color.
11 Φεβ 2021 · Bone scales will absorb dyes very easily. I have a 1990s vintage Amber Bone CASE 6375CV that sat in some red Kool-Aid for a short while and you can still see it decades later. I don't know how well you can control the color, though.
8 Απρ 2023 · Superficial approaches include coffee/tea-based stains, leather or clothing dye, etc. Some of those stains may or may not be permanent. If it is only superficial and you scratch the material you may see white bone show through. You can find a ton of recipes for darkening bone scales on knife forums... faking authenticity is almost it's own ...
