In French, there are four possible accents on the letter e. The acute accent : é. As in the word fusée. 2. The grave accent : è. As in the word flèche. 3. The circumflex accent : ê. As in the word tête. 4. Dieresis on the e : ë. As in the word Noël.
French letters with accents, such as à, é, è, ù, are an essential part of the French language and can greatly affect the pronunciation of a word. There are three accents in French: the acute accent, which appears on the letter e (é) the grave accent, which appears on the letters e, a, and u (à, è, ù)
In French, E is the only letter that can be modified with l’accent aigu, the acute accent. With the accent, it may be called either e accent aigu or simply é, pronounced [e] (more or less like "ay"). As indicated by the latter, the acute accent changes the vowel’s pronunciation to [e].
