Keloid on Ear, also known as auricular keloids, is a type of scar tissue that forms after ear piercing or trauma. This abnormal growth occurs due to the overgrowth of collagen in the affected area. Keloids on the ear can be painful and cause discomfort, especially if they become large or hard.
A keloid on an ear piercing usually manifests as a firm, rubbery, fibrous nodule that extends beyond the boundaries of the original piercing wound. They can vary in colour from flesh-coloured to pink, red, or dark brown and may continue to grow over time, becoming itchy or painful.
Frequently, the patients accuse pruritus and pain . In Caucasian patients, the keloid scars are erythematous and telangiectatic, while in darker skinned patients they are hyperpigmented. The most affected areas are: chest, shoulders, upper back, back of the neck, cheeks and earlobes.
