For purposes of this Guideline, ear keloid lesions are divided into 4 diferent categories according to their size. Papular ear keloids: the size of the keloid papules is a few millimeters to one centimeter. Nodular/tumoral ear keloids: lesions measuring one centimeter in diameter or more.
A keloid on an ear piercing usually manifests as a firm, rubbery, fibrous nodule that extends beyond the boundaries of the original piercing wound. They can vary in colour from flesh-coloured to pink, red, or dark brown and may continue to grow over time, becoming itchy or painful.
What are the symptoms of a keloid? While keloids are growing, they may feel itchy, prickly and/or sore. Once they have stopped growing there is usually no discomfort. If they are located over or near a joint, they can restrict movement. What does a keloid look like? Keloids are enlarged, raised scars.
