23 Ιουν 2017 · The canine middle ear (Figs 1.12 and 1.13) consists primarily of an air-filled tympanic cavity that is separated from the external ear by the tympanic membrane and from the inner ear by the vestibular and cochlear windows.

There are two openings between the middle and inner ear. The vestibular (oval) window is covered by one of the three bones within the middle ear, and the cochlear (round) window is covered by a mucous membrane. The cochlea is the portion of the inner ear involved in hearing via the cochlear nerve.
