In 1851 Shiloh became the first black church in the CBA and in the ABC/USA. In 1869 the association formed the Cleveland Baptist Union, later the Cleveland Baptist Mission Society, to better address evangelistic and mission work, particularly among the poor folk and the unchurched of the city.
