15 Νοε 2016 · I wanted to share some historic maps with you that are held by the Michigan State Libraries. These are viewable online, so you can go to the links and see them in detail to your heart’s content.
In 1826, when John Farmer published his first map of Michigan, only southeastern Michigan had been surveyed. But as settlers poured into the state the demand for maps made Farmer's publication a profitable one.
Michigan's oldest university, the University of Michigan was founded in Detroit in 1817 and was later moved to its present location in Ann Arbor. The state's oldest cultural institution, the Historical Society of Michigan, was established by territorial governor Lewis Cass and explorer Henry Schoolcraft in 1828.

22 Δεκ 2020 · In the early 1800s, surveyors from the Federal Government Land Office headed into the territory of Michigan to draw the lines that would define the counties and townships within what would become the state of Michigan.
