The period between 1897 and 1907 is considered the boom of railroad construction in Oklahoma. Regional companies began many new branches, and by the time of Statehood in 1907, the area was covered by a dense network of rail lines – which led to much over – construction.

In 1896 Laurence H. Rooney of Muskogee, Oklahoma, established a construction company that holds the distinction of being the first corporation registered in Oklahoma. Because Oklahoma was a territory at the time, Rooney traveled to New York City to get his corporate charter.
Short-line railroads, such as FarmRail and the Kiamichi Railroad, emerged to provide service to rural areas and small towns that larger companies ignored. By 2000 twenty-two railroad companies provided the Sooner State with interstate and intrastate rail service on about half of the mileage of track that had existed a century earlier.
One notable form of the "Early Modern" type found along the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad in Oklahoma was the standardized station. Most railroad companies when constructing new trackage after the begin-ning of the twentieth century asked their engineering departments to
