15 Νοε 2023 · The Earth's early atmosphere and oceans play a crucial role in shaping the planet's evolutionary history and creating the conditions necessary for life to emerge and thrive.
15 Φεβ 2021 · Origin of Earth's Atmosphere and Oceans. The study of meteorites and material in space suggest the early Earth probably had large quantities of water, organic compounds, and other gases trapped in the accumulating material forming the planet. As a result, as rocks melted large amounts of volcanic outgassing took place.
This book provides a comprehensive treatment of the chemical nature of the Earth’s early surface environment and how that led to the origin of life. This includes a detailed discussion of the likely process by which life emerged using as much quantitative information as possible.
19 Φεβ 2014 · Through this window, we can view an ocean and atmosphere that were mostly oxygen-starved for almost 90% of Earth’s history. So what are the next great opportunities in studies of early oxygen?
Earth’s original atmosphere was rich in methane, ammonia, water vapour, and the noble gas neon, but it lacked free oxygen. It is likely that hundreds of millions of years separated the first biological production of oxygen by unicellular organisms and its eventual accumulation in the atmosphere.
Volcanic degassing of volatiles, including water vapour, occurred during the early stages of crustal formation and gave rise to the atmosphere. When the surface of Earth had cooled to below 100 °C (212 °F), the hot water vapour in the atmosphere would have condensed to form the early oceans.
1 Οκτ 2020 · Following accretion, it took a few hundred million years for the Earth’s atmosphere and oceans to stabilise. Luckily, we have been able to access a compositional record of the early atmosphere and oceans through the analysis of palaeo-atmospheric fluids trapped in Archean hydrothermal quartz.
