5 Μαρ 2024 · With the upgrade of the Integrated Forecasting System (IFS) to Cycle 48r1 in June 2023, the horizontal resolution of medium-range ensemble forecasts (ENS) increased from 18 to 9 km, bringing it to the same resolution as the high-resolution forecast (HRES).
This data is produced using relevant atmospheric model profiles and surface parameters from the operational high-resolution forecast. These are used to calculate brightness temperatures, which can be visualised as simulated satellite images.
HRES-WAM (High RESolution WAve Model) is coupled to the atmospheric model (HRES) and it is a Direct model output Products offers "High Frequency products": 4 forecast runs per day (00/06/12/18) (see dissemination schedule for details) Hourly steps to step 90 for all four runs.
The HRES (current horizontal resolution 9km, vertical resolution 137 levels) is a single run forecast model run twice daily giving forecasts to Day15 based on 00UTC and 12UTC data times. The HRES provides a detailed description of future weather and also for 3.5 days at 06UTC and 18UTC.
