Edmond Rostand - Wikipedia. Edmond Eugène Alexis Rostand (UK: / ˈrɒstɒ̃ /, [1] US: / rɔːˈstɒ̃, ˈrɒstænd /, [2][3] French: [ɛdmɔ̃ ʁɔstɑ̃]; 1 April 1868 – 2 December 1918) was a French poet and dramatist. He is associated with neo-romanticism and is known best for his 1897 play Cyrano de Bergerac.
Edmond Rostand hails from the South of France, and the atmosphere of his play is as translucid as the atmosphere of his native Provence. It is as far removed from symbolism and mysticism as the shores of the Mediterranean are from the fogs of Scandinavia.
