Eduardo De Filippo OMRI (Italian: [eduˈardo de fiˈlippo]; 26 May 1900 – 31 October 1984), also known simply as Eduardo, [1] was an Italian actor, director, screenwriter and playwright, best known for his Neapolitan works Filumena Marturano and Napoli Milionaria.

Near the end of World War I in 1918, Eduardo was drafted into the military. After a temporary discharge at the end of the year, he was recalled in 1920 to complete his service in the Bersaglieri (2nd Bersaglieri Regiment, stationed in the historic La Marmora barracks in Trastevere), where he remained until 1921.
