There are certain requirements you’ll need to meet to become an enlisted Soldier in the Army. Requirements to Join. Be between 17 and 35 years old. Be medically and physically fit. Be a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident with a valid Green Card. Have a high school degree or GED.
Education requirements. You must have a high school or general equivalency diploma (GED) to enlist in the military. There are fewer spots for GED holders to enter the military. If you have a GED, you will have a better chance of joining if you have: Earned college credits ; Scored higher on the ASVAB
If you already have a Green Card, serving in the Army can reduce the residency requirement for becoming a U.S. citizen to as little as one day instead of five years. The naturalization process for citizenship can begin as soon as your first day of Basic Training.
