View of Toledo (original title Vista de Toledo), is one of the two surviving landscapes painted by El Greco, along with View and Plan of Toledo. View of Toledo is held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
15 Απρ 2020 · One of only two surviving landscapes by El Greco, View of Toledo is among the best known depictions of the sky in western art. At the time it was painted, it was rare to portray an isolated landscape scene, making El Greco the first landscape artist in the history of Spanish art.
13 Ιαν 2021 · In this post, we’re going to take a closer look at a painting called “View of Toledo by El Greco,” a work that has been described as one of the ultimate masterpieces of this eccentric Greek-born artist of the Spanish Renaissance!
During the last year of his life, El Greco painted the classic subject of The Adoration of the Shepherds. The artist created the painting to be displayed above his own tomb in the Santo Domingo el Antiguo convent in Toledo. In the bottom left, you can see his Greek signature.
Regarded as El Greco’s greatest landscape, it portrays Toledo, the city where he lived and worked for most of his life.

El Greco’s View of Toledo does not do that.
