STEEL BRIDGE BEARING SELECTION GUIDE by Charles W. Roeder, Ph.D., P.E., and John F. Stanton, Ph.D., P.E. University of Washington SELECTION OF BEARINGS FOR STEEL BRIDGES This Selection Guide facilitates the process of selecting cost-effective and appropriate bearing systems for steel girder bridges.
Steel bridge bearings may be divided into three general types: elastomeric bearings, high-load multi-rotational bearings, and mechanical bearings. The designer must determine which bearing type is best suited to cost effectively accommodate the design requirements. This chapter of the Handbook
1 Ιουν 2023 · An elastomeric bearing pad plays a crucial role in bridge safety, dependability, and longevity. Read how simulation helps.
The purpose of this guide is to present steel bridge bearing details that are cost effective, functional, and durable. Three major types of bridge bearings are presented. 1. Elastomeric bearings The details are for steel reinforced elastomeric pads; however, much of the content is directly
Plain elastomeric bearing pads (PEP) rely upon friction at the contact surfaces to resist bulging. Local slip resulting from friction loss leads to increased strain, thus limiting the load carrying capacity of the bearing.
LASTO-BLOCK elastomeric bearings are suitable for use in structures which require the transfer of low to medium loads. Equipped with a sliding surface the structural bearings can be particularly useful in providing temporary support during the moving of large loads and for the bridge deck incremental launch method.
11 Αυγ 2021 · Elastomeric bearing pad in a concrete bridge. The design of elastomeric bearings deals with the equilibrium between having sufficient stiffness that can withstand the imposed vertical loads and enough flexibility to allow for the expected deformations.
