Unlike general elections which are held every five years or at the pleasure of the governor-general, by statute cities and towns hold municipal elections on the first Wednesday in March every third year. Belize has seven towns and two recognized cities, Belize City (since 1945) and Belmopan (since 2000).

22 Ιουλ 2024 · Issuing writs for elections: The Governor-General formally initiates the election process by issuing writs. Giving royal assent to legislation: On behalf of the Sovereign, the Governor-General gives royal assent to laws passed by the National Assembly of Belize.
On 28 October, acting Chief Justice Michelle Arana ruled in favour of the Government: as the election process had already begun and the National Assembly had already been dissolved, the court did not have jurisdiction to intervene.

Municipal elections were held in Belize on 3 March 2021. [1] [2] [3] Voters elected a total 67 representatives. [4] This includes a mayor in each of the nine communities, 42 town councils and 16 city councillors (ten in Belize City and six in Belmopan).
