If you want free, realistic and super light-on-resources acoustic drums, try the AVL drumkits (made by the guy who created the AV Linux distro). There are two kits available as LV2 plugins, but now that the current versions of Reaper support LV2, even Windows and Mac users can enjoy them.

I'm not really looking for software that emulates real drum sets per se, more interested in drum machines /electronic music. Synthwave /80s sounds are nice. My budget is in the $200-$400 range.
Question. I'm a bit out if the loop on current plugins, but would like to get into drum programming again. Back in the day when I looked at stuff like that everyone was using superior drummer and EZdrummer, but I doubt those are the top choices now looking at how fast things evolve.
