Elliptic cone with its curvature lines, i.e. its straight lines and their orthogonal trajectories. An elliptical cone is a cone a directrix of which is an ellipse; it is defined up to isometry by its two angles at the vertex. Characterization: cone of degree two not decomposed into two planes.
Assume the cone is vertical, its axis is the z -axis and its base is an ellipse on the xy -plane, centered at (x, y, z) = (0, 0, 0), with semi-major axis a and semi-minor axis b.
There are four types of cones: circular, elliptical, right, and oblique. In the figure left, keep sliding the number of sides and see that as the number of triangular faces increases, the pyramid begins to look more and more like a cone. So, a cone is also a pyramid, and its fifth type is n = ∞.
