Elms are deciduous and semi-deciduous trees comprising the genus Ulmus in the family Ulmaceae.
A very different approach came from Oliver Rackham (1986) who classified elms based on what he thought were their origin: fashion elms (plantsmens varieties), traditional elms (linked to a geographical area) and evolution or Lineage elms (very local elms different from the other two types).

Ulmus americana, generally known as the American elm or, less commonly, as the white elm or water elm, [a] is a species of elm native to eastern North America. The trees can live for several hundred years.
