Against her father's wishes, Kübler enrolled in the medical school at the University of Zurich in 1951 and graduated in 1957. In 1958, she married Emanuel Robert Ross, an American doctor she met in medical school. They moved to New York for internships at Long Island's Glen Cove Community Hospital.
Dr. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, psychiatrist and prolific author of the ground- breaking book, On Death and Dying, died Tuesday evening, August 24, 2004.
She married Dr. Emanuel Ross, an American, who also studied at the university and they moved to the United States to fulfill their medical residency requirements. During her first residency at Manhattan State Hospital, Dr. Kübler-Ross was horrified by the routine neglect and poor treatment of mental patients.
