This is a list of bands that have played screamo at some point in their careers. Screamo is a music genre which predominantly evolved from emo, among other genres, in the early 1990s.

I decided to really map out the incredibly complex and controversial of the three genres and their many subgenres and scenes. This list is by no means exhaustive and truth be told there's only so much complexity you can legibly illustrate in a 2D medium, but I think I made a solid attempt.

Screamo is a genre that is derived from hardcore, specifically the emo nature that some hardcore bands began to exhibit in the 1990s. Though initial bands began appearing around this time, it wasn’t until the late ‘90s/ early 2000s that many had entered mainstream consciousness.
Alex Henderson of AllMusic considers screamo a bridge between hardcore punk and emo. [56] The term screamo is a portmanteau of the words "scream" and "emo". Screamo uses typical rock instrumentation, but is notable for its brief compositions, chaotic sounds, harmonized guitars, and screaming vocals. [57]
12 Αυγ 2024 · Their sole full-length, 1997's 10 Songs, is one of the greatest records of the era within any subgenre of punk, hardcore, or emo. In addition to being clever enough to snag the perfect emo band name, I Hate Myself wrote songs that captured the sound and feeling of the era and sounded totally distinct in the process.
