21 Οκτ 2024 · Endometrial polyps are common benign growths that are typically not seen as cancer precursors but may be linked to cancer in people with advanced age.
The risk of endometrial cancer in women with endometrial polyps is 1.3%, while cancers confined to a polyp were found in only 0.3%. The risk is greatest in postmenopausal women with vaginal bleeding.
The risk of hyperplasia and cancer in polyps with an endometrial thickness ≥ 10.8 mm on TVUS was found 5.5-fold higher in a class II study, confirming that a thickened endometrium in postmenopausal women should be further investigated, ideally with hysteroscopic-guided biopsy .
