Æthelred's 37-year combined reign was the longest of any Anglo-Saxon English king and was only surpassed in the 13th century, by Henry III. Æthelred was briefly succeeded by his son Edmund Ironside, but Edmund died after a few months and was replaced by Sweyn's son Cnut.
14 Αυγ 2024 · Æthelred the Unready, or Æthelred II (c. 968 – 23 April 1016), was King of England (978–1013 and 1014–1016). He was the son of King Edgar and Queen Ælfthryth and was only about ten years old (no more than thirteen) when his half-brother Edward was murdered.
When Æthelred II 'the Unready' King of England was born on 19 March 0968, in Wantage, Berkshire, England, his father, King Edgar Cerdicing "the Peaceful" of the English, was 25 and his mother, Ælfthryth , Regent Queen of England, was 25. He married Ælfgifu of York in 0985.
