PubMed is a free database including primarily the MEDLINE database of references and abstracts on life sciences and biomedical topics. The United States National Library of Medicine (NLM) at the National Institutes of Health maintains the database as part of the Entrez system of information retrieval.
Entrez searches the following databases: PubMed: biomedical literature citations and abstracts, including Medline—articles from (mainly medical) journals, often including abstracts. Links to PubMed Central and other full-text resources are provided for articles from the 1990s. PubMed Central: free, full-text journal articles
One of the most widely used interfaces for the retrieval of information from biological databases is the NCBI Entrez system. Entrez capitalizes on the fact that there are pre-existing, logical relationships between the individual entries found in numerous public databases.
20 Ιαν 2006 · Entrez is NCBI’s primary text search and retrieval system that integrates the literature and molecular databases at NCBI including DNA and protein sequence, structure, gene, genome, genetic variation, and gene expression.
Entrez is a molecular biology database system that provides integrated access to nucleotide and protein sequence data, gene-centered and genomic mapping information, 3D structure data, PubMed MEDLINE, and more.
This book contains information on Entrez, the indexing and data retrieval system developed by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI).
