Each race has certain strengths and weaknesses in their starting attributes, but these strengths and weaknesses will be unimportant by the time you progress to the mid-levels. Each race gets certain innate abilities, and certain racial traits to choose from.

Good races start in Qeynos, evil races start in Freeport and neutral races can start anywhere. Good and evil races are restricted to their respective cities. Neutral races with neutral classes choose which island to start with, thus the city. Only neutral races.
