Abby's family nightmare continues as she and her mother Maggie search for Abby's missing brother Eric, who Abby suspects is suffering from serious mental problems. Meanwhile, Corday treats a family of patients who, while building a snowman, were severely injured after being struck by a truck driver.

Maggie Wyczenski is the mother of Abby Lockhart. Maggie first appears in the episode The Visit when she is visiting Abby. She has bipolar disorder and is unpredictable. She loves Abby, but gets out of control easily. Maggie appears again in the Season 7 episode The Dance We Do. She caused a ruckus in a department store so she had to get stitches.
Abby is visited by her bipolar mother Maggie, Benton's nephew comes into the ER with a serious gunshot wound, and Kovač suspects a young girl is being abused by her father. Corday achieves her desire for a weekend getaway with Greene by treating one patient, a Zambian surfer ( Alan Dale ), too quickly.
Cast members Laura Innes and Paul McCrane each directed an episode, McCrane making his series debut. Returning directors were Félix Enríquez Alcalá, David Nutter, Nelson McCormick, TR Babu Subramaniam, and Alan J. Levi. Peggy Rajski was the season's only new director.
