The Latin Cup [1] was an international official football tournament for club sides from the Southwest European nations of France, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. In 1949, the football federations came together and requested FIFA launch the competition.
The competition is contested by UEFA members' senior men's national teams, determining the continental champion of Europe. [4][5] It is the second-most watched football tournament in the world after the FIFA World Cup; the Euro 2016 final was watched by a global audience of around 600 million. [6]
23 Οκτ 2015 · The Latin Cup, running from 1949 to 1957, was a competition based on a cultural, political and sporting notion of Latinity. It was played by clubs representing France, Italy, Portugal and Spain and was thought by French and Italian officials as a kind of equivalent of the Mitropa Cup.
Milan broke through after just 52 seconds with Maldini striking the fastest goal in European Cup final history. The Italians took control of the game, Andriy Shevchenko fed Hernán Crespo five minutes before half-time to make it 2–0, only for Crespo to add another two minutes later after a defence-splitting pass from Kaká .

8 Ιαν 2024 · The Cup’s History. The competition’s inaugural year was 1949. It saw Barcelona, Torino, Reims and Sporting CP facing off for the cup. Barcelona captured the title after defeating Sporting 2-1 in the final in Madrid, however, Sporting’s Fernando Peyroteo also enjoyed an impressive tournament – claiming the top scorers title.
