30 Ιουλ 2024 · It assesses concentrations of air pollutants in ambient air across Europe, comparing them against current EU standards and the 2021 WHO global air quality guidelines. The EU standards were set out in the 2004 and 2008 ambient air quality directives.
The WHO updated its global air quality guidelines (AQGs) in September 2021. In this revision, focused on PM, ozone, NO2, SO2 and carbon monoxide (CO), the WHO adjusted almost all its recommended limit values downwards compared with the guidelines' previous version dating back to 2005.
Overview. The Ambient Air Quality Directives set EU air quality standards for 12 air pollutants: sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide / nitrogen oxides, particulate matter (PM 10, PM 2.5), ozone, benzene, lead, carbon monoxide, arsenic, cadmium, nickel, and benzo (a)pyrene.
