The park’s “River of Grass” is a slow-moving, shallow river system that flows southward, creating a mosaic of habitats that support a wide range of plant and animal species.

Everglades Literacy. The Everglades Literacy Program hosts Teacher Trainings and classroom presentations, participates in Science Nights, and provides a free, online Teacher Toolkit with 36 comprehensive Everglades lesson plans that align with Florida State Standards.
The questions cover topics like the headwaters and flow of water through the Everglades, dominant ecosystems, impacts of human activities, important species, ongoing restoration efforts, and challenges facing conservation.
