Abstract. The clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeat (CRISPR)-associated protein 9 (Cas9) genome editing system is a powerful tool for targeted gene modifications in a wide range of species, including plants.
For example, genes that encode proteins capable of breaking down mycotoxins (Karlovsky, 2011) or inhibiting the activity of cell-wall-degrading enzymes can be introduced into plants.
